Safe Shopping Tips

TIP 1

Buyers and Sellers using ECAY must always be vigilant and aware. Beware of extraordinary bargains. Check condition and authenticity of items. If something looks too good to be true..then it probably is! Also PLEASE NOTE that certain goods offered for sale in MOBILE PHONES and ANIMALS are on occasion possibly dubious. PLEASE ENSURE that you do NOT pay for Phones or ANIMALS without first obtaining complete proof to your satisfaction that these adverts are legitimate.
Ecay has a small list of APPROVED ANIMAL vendors that we can assist you with if asked. ALWAYS ensure that the vendor is CAYMAN BASED in these areas.

TIP 2

Do not give out personal financial details (i.e. bank account numbers).

TIP 3

Get the potential buyer/seller to provide a name, telephone number, place of work and their contact details. Verify these details before meeting them or concluding any transaction.

TIP 4

Always choose an established safe way to pay or a credit/debit card.

TIP 5

When buying, pay only for items with which you are properly satisfied.

TIP 6

When selling, be aware of the risks of forgery of cheques and other financial instruments.

TIP 7

When meeting a stranger to conclude any transaction:

  • As far as possible insist that the meeting should occur in a secure public place such as a police station, shopping mall or café or your place of work and bring a friend or family member whenever possible.
  • Carry your cell phone; give a friend or family member details of the meeting; the time of meeting and the address at which you are meeting.
  • When visiting a stranger’s residence take an escort with you and, when meeting a stranger at your home ensure that you are in the company of a friend or adult family member.

Be aware that if dealing with overseas or non-local entities or individuals, there might be an increased risk of being scammed.

TIP 9

Be aware that ECAY may report any suspected dubious activity occurring on any of its sites to the Police.

TIP 10
